Non-Toxic Futons Compared (Organic & Natural Materials)

Published: April 15, 2024 | Corinne Segura, Building Biologist

A proper futon mattress is a mattress with no foam and no springs, so that is what this article will focus on. For non-toxic and natural fills we have cotton, wool, and kapok or a mix of two of those.

You may also want to select an organic cover as a few companies have more than one option for the cover materials.

With wool, organic is not always necessary, but you can go for certified organic wool if you want the best reassurance there. With cotton, I would consider organic cotton to be very important when it comes to cotton batting and less important when cotton is processed into fabric for the cover.

The top-of-the-line certification is GOTS organic.

What are the key features of the Savvy Rest Pastoral Organic Wool Futon, and how does its certification ensure non-toxicity?

These futon recommendations are helpful. Thank you so much. Do you happen to have any information regarding non-toxic beanbag-type chairs/loungers? For example, Jaxx advertises Eco foam use. Is this a safer alternative to the beads?
Thanks for the work you do to help us keep our families safe and healthy.

I havent written about bean bag chairs but some of the beads if they are hard plastic are going to be the best way to go unless you want to go with a natural fill
